📅 From June 27 to August 5, 2025

📍 Amphitheater of the Excavations of Pompeii (NA)

From classical to pop: 14 live performances with international and national artists

From June 27 to August 5, 2025, the second season of musical events at the Archaeological Park of Pompeii begins, with fourteen live performances at the Amphitheater of the excavations featuring internationally and nationally renowned artists. After the opening with two concert dates by Andrea Bocelli, and at the end of July the concert by Maestro Riccardo Muti, the series “BOP – Beats of Pompeii. Where Music is Culture returns, bringing to the Amphitheater stage a diverse lineup of artists in terms of musical genre and origin: Nick Cave, Jean-Michel Jarre, Wardruna, Ben Harper, Bryan Adams, Dream Theater, Stefano Bollani, Gianna Nannini, Antonello Venditti, Serena Rossi, Jimmy Sax. A great sonic journey that crosses genres and styles, combining music, tourism, culture, and history in an unparalleled setting.

The Amphitheater of Pompeii, a symbol of ancient and modern history, thus becomes a vibrant place of life through music. Here, in 1971, the Pink Floyd held a historic closed-door concert, marking this place in collective imagination as one of the most iconic venues for live music.

The concert season is sponsored by the Ministry of Culture and the Archaeological Park of Pompeii, in collaboration with the Municipality of Pompeii and the Campania Region. The BOP series features artistic direction by Giuseppe Gomez and technical organization by Blackstar Entertainment and Fast Forward.

“‘Pompeii is Music’ will be an opportunity not only to witness performances by artists like Jean-Michel Jarre, whose track Oxygen represented a watershed moment for me and an entire generation, combining melodies and synthesizer use. But it will also represent that alliance between cultural heritage and activities that I advocate for and without which these wonderful places do not live, do not breathe. I hope that Pompeii becomes an example for all of Italy and a global icon for this as well“. This was stated by the Undersecretary of Culture with delegation to Music, Gianmarco Mazzi .

Today with UNESCO we talk a lot about intangible heritage, including obviously music. – emphasizes the Park Director, Gabriel Zuchtriegel – But in reality, all cultural heritage is intangible, including archaeological sites and monuments. Because their material dimension, which naturally needs to be cared for and monitored, is only the foundation for their intangible or, as it was once called, ‘spiritual’ dimension, that is, for their ability to transform our life and our experience of the world through encounters with the other, both in history and in the present. Therefore, bringing music to the Pompeii site for us is not a supplementary action, but an integral part of our project of protection, research, and enjoyment of archaeological heritage that we hope can be a model for many other cultural sites, beautiful but not always experienced by the community and the public in their transformative dimension. If we truly believe in culture, we must open it to everyone.”

The encounter between music and archaeology has always fascinated artists, musicians, philosophers, and writers, especially in understanding the connection between art and sounds, between colors, emotions, and musical notes. Demonstrating the possibility of paralleling the art of music with that of frescoes, ancient domus, and mosaics was also one of the theses that made world music history: Pink Floyd in the Amphitheater. As well as the thesis of one of the most important abstract artists like Vassily Kandinsky who maintained that: ‘painting is an art very similar to music and therefore capable of transmitting emotions in an abstract way, where color, in place of sound, attracts the attention of the viewer without necessarily having to narrate or describe aspects of objective reality.’ It is on the basis of these themes that the “Bop-Beats of Pompeii” series is founded, a meeting between archaeology and the music of international artists who together will create a unique and unrepeatable performance”- the Mayor of Pompeii Carmine Lo Sapio.

The BOP-Beats of Pompeii series – adds Artistic Director Peppe Gomez, with his strong experience in the Campania region – is also a reflection of the cultural ferment that Naples and Campania are experiencing, increasingly taking center stage on the international scene. The series represents an opportunity to promote the territory, encouraging residential tourism and supporting the local economy.”

An opportunity not to be missed for those who want to experience an unrepeatable event, combining music, history, and pathos.
